The first thing you noticed about Gandalf when you met him, was that he loved people and he
loved life. His personality was larger than life, and he was in love with all the world.
Everyone was his friend and if he hadn't met them yet, they were friends waiting to be
made. He was that rare being, a male dog who would not fight under any circumstances. Even
when actually attacked, he would only seize his attacker by the ruff and hold him until help
arrived.

And on the other hand he was a magnificent show dog. His show wins place him in the first
rank of Cardigans throughout history. Before the arrival of Oliver (Gr. Ch. Llandaff Harlem
Foxtrot) in the ring, Gandalf was the most prolific winner in Australian Cardigan history,
and up until the time of his death he was still the biggest winner among Blue Merles in
Australia. He loved the show ring, and performed for the crowd like the star he was. He
won two Best in Show awards, five Runner-up to Best in Show, 26 Best in Group, 17
Runner-up in Group and 35 Open in Group, and the winnings also included Group 3 at Sydney
Royal.

He was bred in Hawaii by Ellie Tepper and Ken and Mary Keefe, and only came to Australia
when he was two, to the care of Dorothy Hartcher and Rhonda Ralphs. He spent the rest of
his life delighting Dorothy and Clive, roaming the home gardens, fathering a small horde of
Champion puppies and enjoying life.

Thank you for everything, Gandy, and wait for me at the Bridge.
Dorothy Hartcher.

"Gandalf"
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet crosses Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills so they can run and play through streams, and feel the sunshine and wind on
their faces. There is plenty of everything they need to feel warm and comfortable. All the animals are
restored to health and vigour. There they are made whole and strong again. The animals have everything
they need except for the special one who had to be left behind.
And so they romp and play and wait for us ... across the Rainbow Bridge.
