FEEDING
This list covers the full nutritional needs of the growing puppy from 8 weeks of age. Common sense
can be applied by choosing items to puppy’s liking, but the diet must fulfil the pup’s needs providing
protein, carbohydrates and fat along with vitamins and minerals essential for healthy growth.
Raw Meat
Any economical beef cuts or pet mince
Cooked Meat
Ox-liver, Ox-heart, Sheep’s heart, tripe or Commercial sausage.
Tinned Dog Foods
Good for occasional variety or in combination with dry foods. Nutritionally well balanced but mostly
water, hence large quantities have to be fed to supply the needs of a growing pup.
Dried Foods
Dry foods contain only about 10 percent water and have the highest energy content.
Complete dry food products such as Pal, Eucanubra, Proplan or Hills Science Diet are economical and
excellent nutritional value. Convenient and easily stored, they offer the best value for correct diet.
Cereal
Used to thicken milk feeds. Heinz High Protein Cereal is suitable.
Bones
Soft, non-splintering bones (e.g Brisket) or large joint bones are suitable.
Many veterinarians today recommend raw chicken wings for chewing digestion and provision of calcium.
