The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a long, low, fox-like dog with large upright ears, a bushy tail and a short
or medium length coat which comes in an intriguingly wide range of colours - red, sable, brindle, black,
blue merle, black and tan, all of which are usually attractively marked - with white on the legs and
feet as well as head, collar and tip of tail.
Temperament
Originally bred to work closely with the farmers of Wales as a herder of cattle, guard dog and
companion, the Cardi is biddable, ready to please, as well as independent and resourceful. He is
totally devoted to those he loves and can adjust to almost any lifestyle, be it herding livestock or
living in a city apartment. An intelligent dog, usually of quiet and sensible temperament, he makes a
delightful companion to all age groups.
Personality and Suitability as a Pet
One of the best features of the Cardigan is his huge personality. He is full of fun and if brought up
with children who are taught to treat him properly, he will revel in frolics, always ready for a game.
He excels as a watchdog, keen of hearing and possessing a remarkable memory. He is able to tell the
difference between strange and familiar footsteps and car engines long before the owner is aware
of their approach.
Easy Care Breed
His short coat requires no stripping or trimming which is an obvious advantage since there are no long
featherings or frills to carry mud and dirt into the house. The only attention necessary to keep the
coat clean and shiny is a daily brush and an occasional bath. The Cardigan is an easy care breed with a
constitution which contributes to good health and general freedom from skin and other troubles, and
as long as he is given a good diet and not allowed to become overweight, will live to a ripe and active
old age.
Being Owned by a Cardi
Buying a Cardigan puppy should only be done through a registered breeder, never from a pet shop.
Cardigans get on well with other breeds of dogs and have no problems living with cats. Whether you
buy a male or female, your Cardigan Welsh Corgi will be a devoted, loving companion, dedicated to you
and your family.
If you do not already own a Cardigan Welsh Corgi we hope you soon will. It is, we assure you, a very pleasant experience.
